Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
"Warlock? No. But she might genuinely be a seer, from what I've heard a seers powers are pretty unstable." Jack says and starts walking towards Brodert Quink in a strolling pace.

Right next to The Old Light - the ruins of a lighthouse - lies an ancient building with an air of disrepair over it. A copper plaque on the door reads:
Brodert Quink
Sage

"It has the right atmosphere for the subject matter at least." Jack mutters and raps his knuckles on the door.

'I'm in no mood to be mocked today!' Calls an old man's voice from somewhere in the house. 'And I can't build a machine that makes your crops grow bigger! Now leave me alone!'
Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
Jack clears his throat. "Brodert Quink I presume? We have not come to mock nor for machinery."

After a little while, the door opens and reveals an old man. Mostly bald, with a finely combed beard, a pair of glasses, and carrying a heavy book, Brodert Quink certainly looks the part of a historian.
'What do you want?' he asks in a suspicious voice, squinting at the bright sunlight.

Jack fixes a smile on his face. "Information."
"We seek knowledge on the entity konwn as" Jack leans in close to the old man "Pazuzu."

Brodert squints even harder and leans even closer to Jack, their noses almost touching.
'Pazuzu?' he asks.
'Pazuzu?' he asks.

- Spoiler:
- You probably haven't heard of him, he's pretty deep.

'I know who he is!' he snaps. After a moment, he turns around and walks back into the house. 'Come in,' he says. 'And close the door behind you!'
Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
Jack steps gingerly inside and looks around him.

Shathys stays in the background, squinting against the light, after entering the room and adjusting to the light he rubs his eyes, the pain fading from the brightness of the light. It was never much of a trouble, but prolonged exposure to this bright plane has begun to painfully sear at his eyes.
"Thank you for inviting us in." Shathys grumbles, wiping away what he thinks may be blood.

Morbus looks around in the building, trying make sure his big feet don't step on anything fragile next to him. Then he asks Brodert squints, 'Why don't you want to be disturbed? If it was me sitting in here I would probably like some company once in a while - someone to talk to. By the way - do you know anything about plants? You see, I have this lily I would like to take better care of and to me you look quite clever with those glasses, so I thought you might know a thing or two about plants'

Jack turns around to look at Morbus "We have matters more important than plants to attend to, warforged."

Shathys pats Morbus on the back, "Don't worry friend, he's often grumpy." Shathys chuckles.

"Men" Shara sighs. She shrugs and keeps to herself in the back of the group. Osmus wanders off to look around the room.

Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
The inside of the building looks like a museum. Dozens of shelves filled with books, tomes and scrolls line the walls, everything arranged very neatly. But everything is covered in a thin layer of dust, and it's obvious that Brodert Quink doesn't get a lot of business. A cat lounges on a mostly empty shelf, tail swinging lazily. Its bright yellow eyes are sharp contrasts to the otherwise grey surroundings.
Brodert clears a table, mumbling under his breath. He picks up a large leather-bound tome and opens it on the table. 'Pazuzu, you say... What do you want to know?'

Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
"Who is he, what does he want, does the city have any history with him?" Jack pulls out the hideous skin bound tome from his backpack. "And lastly, what can you tell us about this." the book lands on the table with a thud.

Shathys puts a hand on Mishka's collar as she sees the cat. "Don't even think about it." Mishka answers with a reproachful growl.
Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
- Spoiler:
- Speaking of Mishka, I'm changing how she works mechanically. She is no longer physically in battles, and she gives no bonuses to anything. Instead, she works simply as a shared encounter power. Meaning anyone can use it, but it can only be used once per encounter in total.
Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
Morbus walks around in the building, looking at the books covered in dust while he carefully listens to the words of Brodert Quink. He swings around looking at Jack Steele in a disgruntled way before he returns to the book shelves, still listening.

Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
Brodert looks from the gruesome tome to Jack. 'Where did you get that?' He asks. 'No, don't answer. I don't want to know.' He opens it carefully with the very tips of his fingers. 'Pazuzu,' he says as he studies the book, 'Is a powerful demon prince, called the Prince of the Lower Aerial Kingdoms. He rules the skies above all layers of the Abyss. He is sometimes known as Pazrael or Pazuzeus. Pazuzu's lair is Torremor, a tangled mass of beams, pinnacles, arches, ladders, and other structures, held together by rope and chain. Torremor is located on the 503rd layer of the Abyss. However, Pazuzu spends most of his time on Pazunia, the 1st layer of the Abyss.'
Seeing the confusion on your faces, he clears his throat. 'But I suppose you don't really care about the details. Pazuzu is the deity of all flying evil creatures, and is viewed by the denizens of the Abyss with resentment and grudging respect, because unlike most demon lords, he is not interested in conquest of the Abyss. His main concern is winning followers on the Material Plane by tempting or deceiving those who seek to do good. He aids any good creature who summons him, in order to tempt him or her to evil. He is also known to work in unison with other demon princes, spreading disorder and distrust before the real attack begins. But,' he says, 'I don't believe Sandpoint has had any dealing with Pazuzu before. And if it had, we probably wouldn't know. Pazuzu rarely makes his presence known.'
'As for this tome... It's written in an old tongue. Ancient, by your standards. I can translate it if you wish, but it will take some time. As for your questions, Warforged: I don't like being disturbed because none of these bloody farmers can appreciate an intellectual. They care nothing for history, and I am mocked for being smarter than them! Savages, the lot of them. And no, I don't know anything about bloody flowers.'

- Spoiler:
- Also, Mishka looks like this now. She's a big dog, and the last picture made her look really small.
Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
"We probably should find out what's in that tome. A couple of days time or not, it seems pretty important."

Quink gives you a sharp look over his spectacles. 'I assume you can pay, of course. I'm not a charity.'
