Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
- Spoiler:
- Religion check. 11+4 = 15. Anything fun you could do with a sacred corpse?
"Useless old priest..." he mutters under his breath on his way out.

- Spoiler:
- Jack: Truly sacred corpses - those of mighty paladins or clerics - are notoriously difficult to use for evil rituals, but you didn't get the sense that Ezakien Tobyn was a mighty vessel for divine powers. Chances are that his corpse is no different from any other, beyond the symbolic value of him being a holy man.
You all get a good night's sleep in The Rusty Dragon, and wake up the next morning feeling refreshed and ready for whatever lies ahead.
- Spoiler:
- Extended rest: Regain all your daily powers, surges and HP.

Shathys didn't sleep well that night. Thoughts were invading his mind, no beginning or end, just a constant train of 'What if.' Eventually growing tired of tossing and turning restlessly, he got up shortly before dawn and sat in the eating room near the fire, gently nursing some tea while feeding Mishka some scraps from the prior night's food.

Jack opens his eyes and stretches. After putting on his armour and strapping his weapons on, his helmet strapped to his belt, he walks downstairs.
"Good morning Shathys." Jack says, his face energetic and smiling. "Ready to hunt down some heretics and goblins?"

Hearing the voice of Jack, Shathys cracks into a grin. "I'd much rather cuddle up to some friendly barmaid in front of a fire but I suppose you'd be rather bored without me, and so out of the goodness of my heart I'll join ya." Shathys winks cheerfully, in a good mood to start the day already.

After getting a good rest, some food and some time to herself, Shara is ready for adventuring. She heads downstairs, all packed and ready, and joins in with the 2 guys. While still in the inn she grabs a bite to eat and feeds Osmus. "Who knows when we might get a good solid meal again", she thinks to herself, quivering a bit at the thought.

Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
Rising from his seat Shathys nods politely; "Good morning Lady Shara, I trust you had a good nights rest."
"Now that we're all together, we need to decide what we know, Jack, did you find anything of use when talking to the Father yesterday?
Shara, did you find anything of use?"
Frowning intently, Shathys speaks again, "It seems to me that our slimy goblin friend would be the only option to go, the goblin said one of the Longshanks hired them, he could have been lying but that would be some rare intelligence from a goblin. Whatever we do we have to do it carefully now as we can't just accuse people of a massacre, we are the outsiders after all, none of us needs a knife in the back while walking down the street at night."
As he finishes speaking, Shathys leans back against a wall, waiting for the others to talk.
In the background Mishka growls happily gnawing on a bone.

Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
Jack nods at Shathys. "I have a theory." He sits down in a chair and pulls his notebook out. "The attack was a distraction, their real target was the corpse of a priest who died in the fire five years ago. Now, why the priest? From experience I know that holy and sacred things are difficult to work with in a necromantic perspective.
However, the priest's corpse wasn't holy, he was a simple priest. That offers some protection in life, but in death he's just another corpse. Father Zantus seems to be of the opinion that the fire was accidental.
If it wasn't however, the priest corpse had enemies, or maybe the fire was an attempt to steal something the priest had on his person, but it failed. Now they tried again and succeeded, that's the best explanation I can come up with." Jack said and closed his notebook with a clap.
"The best way I can see to proceed, would indeed be our little goblin friend. Hopefully the sheriff did what I asked and kept him safe." He looked at his companions. "I know what I can do and I've seen you both fight. But do you have anything else that can contribute to this mission?"

"I'm sorry, but i'm not very experienced in the arts of adventuring. I'm perfectly happy just tagging along and helping in whatever way i can. I didn't really get a chance to speak with anyone yesterday, because to be honest, i was a little shaken up". Shara says with a shy smile.
Osmus rubs against her leg to comfort her, while she nervously twirls her hair with her fingers.

Shathys smiles, "In all honesty, I have nothing to contribute but I can fight, and having nothing better to do, I guess i'll tag along."
Shathys slowly drains the rest of his tea, just knowing that today is going to be longer than usual.

"Oh come now, I know for a fact you can both wrestle with pigs." Jack says with a smirk.
"In any case, I suggest we pack our things and try to find the goblin camp. It shouldn't be too much of a problem with a guide."

Shathys looks forlornly at the fire, trying to memorize it's warmth.
"Well, i'm more or less ready now, what say we have one last cup of tea whilst we wait for out lady to get ready." Shathys tries to conceal a grin, not quite resisting the urge to stir the pot.

Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
It is only when you rise to leave that Ameiko Kaijitsu - the owner of The Rusty Dragon - comes shuffling down the stairs in her sleeping wear, scratching her backside. Her eyes are bleary with sleep and her hair madly askew. "Oh good," she says as spots your table. "You found the tea and stuff. I usually sleep in, you see, so I just leave some food and drink out for the guests. You sleep alright? No stray goblins under your beds, I hope."
Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
"Everything was very pleasant, it's a nice establishment you've got here" Shara smiles at the messy looking woman. "I'm afraid we're not staying though".

"Oh? Where are you off to in such a hurry? From what I heard, you did more than your fair share of fighting yesterday."
Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
Shara looks at the guys, unsure if she's allowed to tell the nice inn-keeper where they are going and what they are up too.

Shathys shrugs indifferently.
Thinking to himself, "If anything does happen, we'll just have to hunt her down as well."
Yawning and stretching Shathys begins to gather his things

"Simply put, miss, we're going to find the ones who did this and put things right. Or at least as right as they can be."
"Thank you for your patronage." Jack says and hands the innkeeper coin for the room. He then motions for the others to follow him.

"So it begins." Shathys grumbles quietly.
"Come, Mishka." Shathys motions for Mishka to follow him and follows Jack out.

"How very generous of you, Shara." Shathys smiles.
"Now, dearest Jack, where shall our merry group of adventurers go to now?"

Re: Rise of The Runelords 1 - Burnt Offerings
As you walk through Sandpoint, it strikes you how busy the village appears to be, despite the early hour. The smell of fresh-baked bread and newly caught fish drifts through the air, and many merchants are already opening for the day. It seems that the life of a villager is a busy one, and even with a goblin raid fresh in memory, work must be done.
- Spoiler:
- You are at 37: The Rusty Dragon Inn. The Sandpoint Garrison is located at number 10.
